Intern to Full-time for All Ages (October-November 2010)
By Karen Litzinger, MA, LPC

I had the opportunity to be interviewed by KDKA's Rob Mangino about a Career Builder survey showing that experienced and mature workers are contacting employers for internships. 23% of employers reported that workers with more than 10 years of experience or workers 50 or older have been applying for internships. That's a good strategy since 52% of companies said they are likely to hire interns as full-time employees. This is even better than networking; a person is now an internal candidate! It's not unusual for a career changer to use an volunteer position as a way to get experience, but with the economy, this phenomena is increasing.
