Career Success is about Passion (July-August 2010)
By Karen Litzinger, MA, LPC

I love listening to inspirational and self-improvement CDs when I travel distances. A few years ago I listened to a freebie CD from Success Magazine and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't all about money, but success in life. As a matter of fact, I was introduced to a more spiritual side of Andrew Carnegie!

I also learned that it was Carnegie who inspired and challenged Napoleon Hill to interview 500 self-made millionaires (Edison, Bell, Ford, Roosevelt and many more) to write about the secrets of success. This resulted in Think and Grow Rich published in 1937 which has sold over 60 million copies worldwide, and is still a classic many people refer to. Again I was pleasantly surprised that this was about life success and happiness as much as or more than monetary success.

In these CDs and my latest vacation traveling companion (50 Success Classics Winning Wisdom for Life and Work from 50 Landmark Books), I found themes about the need for passion in whatever you do, including specifically career passion. Even though we are in a difficult economy and sometimes you do what you need to do, it reminds me of the importance of career counseling to help people find their passion.

Napoleon Hill's most famous quote is "Whatever a mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve." He stated, as do the other law of attraction authors I've read, that the "thought" must be accompanied by "emotion" in order to manifest the intention. The stronger the positive emotion attached to the intention and thought, the more powerful the result. And this is all about passion!
